A good day in California

by Kathi D on August 4, 2010

I’m sure this isn’t over yet, but hooray for Judge Vaughn Walker for getting it right.

Judge strikes down Prop. 8, allows gay marriage in California

In a long-awaited ruling, Judge Vaughn Walker says the ban on same-sex marriage violates constitutional rights to equal protection and due process. The decision is expected to reach the Supreme Court.

The federal judge who overturned Proposition 8 Wednesday said the ballot initiative that banned same-sex marriage was based on moral disapproval of gay marriage and ordered the state to stop enforcing the ban.

U.S. District Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker, in a 136-page ruling, said California “has no interest in differentiating between same-sex and opposite-sex unions.”

In related news, Brad Pitt may have to marry Angelina now. He famously declared, “I have love in my life, a soul mate–absolutely. When someone asked me why Angie and I don’t get married, I replied, ‘Maybe we’ll get married when it’s legal for everyone else’,” instantly validating millions of (mostly) men who were running out of excuses.

This photo of my blackberry-stained hand has nothing to do with gay marriage.

The blackberries stain your hands like the blood of inequality stains the proponents of Prop 8′s hands. And now it is time to wash them clean.

See? There’s a reason for everything you do!

Boy, you’ve packed a lot into this post.

A. Yippee for equal rights! Who are we to judge who others love?
B. Marry her already Brad! I want to see her in a wedding gown on the cover of People Magazine.
C. Blackberry picking was ruined for me as a child. It always involved crazy heat, chiggers and brambles. Who needs that in their life? Luckily I was introduced to the farmer’s market and realized I could just pay someone else to be tortured. What will you be doing with your beautiful berries?

Completely off subject, but do you have chiggers in California? If not I’m coming to live in the chicken coop.

I sitll find it hard to believe that most people are in favor of things like prop 8. It just goes to prove that if you motivate 100% of the paranoid moron population in this country you can destroy anything good and decent.

Been missing my blog hopping. Just had to jump in though and say YES! I suppose we haven’t heard the end of it but this is such a fine start.

Toi, no chiggers in California that I know of, but plenty of bugs. And chicken coops are usually prime habitat for black widows, where I come from. Ask to live on Barkley’s couch instead. :)
