It is entirely possible that I have lost my mind

by Kathi D on September 1, 2008

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “She doesn’t actually have any writerly celebrity encounters to blog about, does she? Because if she did, she would just get to it, instead of talking about it all the time and never doing it.”

All I can say is, oh yes I do. And I am going to blog all about it. Tomorrow or the next day, for sure. Meanwhile, let me introduce you to a couple of jet-setting new friends.

Her

Him

I believe it would be fair to say that I suffer from Poor Impulse Control. Please recall that it is totally not my fault. I blame the ADD. Nevertheless, sometimes my impulsivity leads to eating an entire container of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, and other times it might lead to, um, two adorable puppies. I didn’t mean to do it, exactly. I was just browsing the internet, mooning over puppy pictures, thinking about how someday we really would need to find another puppy to fall in love with, and then I saw these pictures. So, I’m not made of stone, am I??

These little ones will be on a jet plane very soon, and we will be greeting them and bringing them home with us. They do have perfectly good names, which I would tell you except that I haven’t twisted Rick’s arm hard enough quite convinced Rick that my choices are obviously correct. First, he gave me a list of names that made me wonder who was this stranger that I have been married to and thought I knew, until I found out he has absolutely no taste in dog names whatsoever. Then I gave him my two perfect names, and he hooted one right out of the running, and let the other one slip away quietly. I don’t know how we managed this before. I do know that we worked our way all through the alphabet before agreeing on Zeke for our first dog, and somehow we managed with Bonnie and Bronco. But we were younger then.

We have been batting names back and forth, and I’m sure we will reach a consensus sometime before we have to start yelling, “——, NO!” at them.

They should be arriving on Friday, weather permitting. We are trying to prepare Bonnie for her new siblings, puppy-proofing the house, and studying the dog training books yet again.

We are such saps.

You’re not saps! You love animals. Well, maybe you are saps. Probably all animal lovers are. Having seen the photos of these two, even I am partially in love with them already. But which one is cuter? Her? Him? Him? Her? Bronco would approve of you putting a little salve on the wounds in your hearts …. ;o)

oh my lord!!! that’s worse than having children! I think you must indeed have lost your mind – or fed it to the chickens or something!!! Good luck! And good luck with the naming too. xx

Wow! Puuuuuuuppies! I doubt you will need names right away, as you will be too busy saying, “Aw, who’s a wuvvy-duvvy sweetums??”

impulse control? you barely have bladder control. as I recall my childhood, you always got what you wanted because you were so young and so cute, but at least I’m not bitter.
I vote to let rick pick the names this time.

Oh my! Cuteness overload!!!

This is where you imagine me squealing “Ohhhhhh” in that high pitched voice females reserve for things that are either wonderfully cute, sweet or occasionally dissapointing and in this case its the first two. I think they’re absolutely adorable and can’t wait to hear the names you pick for them. I know from experience now that the man will eventually give in to your correct choices, but I also know that its sometimes wise to meet the babies first so you can form an opinion of their personalities. Congrats!

Oh they are adorable! You are going to be very very busy for the next few weeks! Enjoy and good luck with the potty training :)

Your life is about to turn upside down, you know. TWO puppies who have to go out at 3 in the morning, chew your underwear, tease Bonnie, and otherwise wreak havoc. Plus, they’re of the herding persuasion. Now you have to get a flock of sheep, you know. But, damn, they’re CUTE!!!

PS: thank you so much for your wonderful words this a.m. – they made me cry and feel a lot better at the same time. xo

That thar’s a whole lotta CUTE miss kathi. They’ll certainly fill your days. :-) We can share thoughts in the coming weeks on what to say as an alternative to NO! Congratulations on the new family members.

Her, being a shelty, and him being an australian shepherd, you will have you lives full….and so will Bonnie. How is bonnie doing? My daughter’s aussie is so hyper, we have nightmares of him. Her shelty is God’s little blessing. So sweet.

One day I will have two dogs and will name them Caleb and Jubal. I’ve saved those names for decades.

Is dog adoption an ADD trait? I never thought of it before, but that might explain my scrappy bunch. At least yours are cute. I managed to come home with an ugly little dog from a gas station – going for gas, coming back with ugly dog. I am a total sucker.

I will be there saturday to waller in the puppy breath. I can stay with the chickens, or the vegetables, I’l let you choose. They are adorable.

Diana September 1, 2008 at 7:24 pm

THEY ARE ADORABLE KATHI! I seriously would have done the exact same thing if it were me. I’m an impulsive sap for sure. New puppies can get to me really easy! I can hardly wait for the fun puppy naming stories and puppy tearing everything up stories and keeping you up all night stories and chasing the chickens stories. Oh so many fun things to come!! Woo-hoo!! (don’t forget puppy poop stories:)

Busty LaRue September 1, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Oh how adorable are they!! Can’t wait to hear what you decide to name them, and hear all the fun you guys will have..,…especially the puppy pooping stories. Those are the best!

I think you are perfectly correct in wanting to name “her” Toe. It just makes sense.

I will be traveling with Karen on Saturday to partake in the puppy breath. I just can’t wait to see how these two and the chickens get along. This is just fantastic!

Leslie September 2, 2008 at 11:48 am

Well I think you lost your mind a long time ago :) There is nothing saner then puppies. Congrats on the new pups.

Ellie September 2, 2008 at 1:32 pm

Wow. And it’s true — I can see the syrup dripping from the tree…..
