P.S. on embarrassing the next generations

by Kathi D on July 11, 2008

I have to add to yesterday’s story that I really do these silly stunts, but as far as feeling “threatened,” never. I am a firm believer in the power of pure intention, and I never set out to mock anyone but myself. Well, that’s not totally true, I do mock people on TV and such, but unless you are a bona fide public figure, you are safe in my hands. When I say “yo dude” to a blonde surfer or “yo blood” to a black guy, they immediately get the picture of a crazy-ass old white lady doing her best to be utterly ridiculous, and they play along (in case I might be dangerous?).

I am a lover of people, and it’s rare for me to have harsh words with anyone I run into. I find that most people respond in kind, so I almost never encounter anyone who treats me with anything but kindness and good humor. I learned from my mama to say a kind word whenever I can and shut up if I can’t think of a kind word. At my mother’s church she was known as “the cheerleader” because she had an encouraging word for somebody at every turn, and if that is my epitaph, I will die happy.

Anyway, I am throwing in this addendum because in case anyone failed to see the subtext (and I know none of my “regulars” failed in that regard) I want it laid plain and bare that I don’t practice racism, ageism, sexism, or any other -ism that makes people of any stripe feel “less than” and I don’t tolerate people who do.

What I do believe in is adding as much Silly to the world as possible, because being silly is good for you.

Try it!

I agree, silly for everyone!

Did you get hounded for that?

Kathi D July 11, 2008 at 10:47 am

Karen, only by my husband! He knew I wasn’t being mean, but he was afraid that some people might see it differently, and I thought about that myself.

Oh what’s the world coming to when we have to apologize for enjoying ourselves. Seems like the pendulum has swung too far the OTHER way. Kathi, even MY husband hemmed and hawed over my COMMENT! I think we can lay all of this at the American’s Civil Liberties Union. Over-correction just creats one wrong followed by another wrong.

I adore you Kathi. You are my hero. If you EVER apologize to ME for ANYTHING, I will come to your house and have such a throw-down on you and your peeps (get it? PEEPS! Ha! I crack myself up) but as I was saying: NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR ANYTHING, unless it truly was you that took the screws out of the crutches and the brakes off the wheelchair.

Adding Silly to the world, huh? No, you’re not racist or sexist, but I guess you are a card-carrying Serious-ist. I’m so sick of you Serious-ists trying to make this world a Silly place in order perpetuate your own agenda. You’re trying to keep us Serious folk down and we’re not gonna take it anymore! I don’t even know why I read this blog, it just makes me so mad every single day!

;)
(I wanted to leave the wink out, but I just got really worried that somebody would think I was being serious. And, I wanted to put major spelling errors in like real Trolls usually do, but I just couldn’t do it.)

Dana, not apologizing, just ‘splaining myself, Loooooocy!

Abby, I’m sorry, but I just can’t abide you Serious people. There, I’ve said it! Now do what you must. I love making you angry.

Well thank God you clarified that because I was packing up the Element to head your way to have a major throw down. This is going to free up a lot of time in my weekend now. Thanks Kathi! You have ruined my weekend. Now I’m going to have to do something like clean the bathtub. (Hey, maybe I can score you some hair!)

Let’s just assume that Kathi’s POST OF EXPLANATION was another one of her jokes at our expense. That way, I can go back to the voices in my head and the feeling that all is right with the world again.

NICKI PARKER July 11, 2008 at 9:02 pm

Hi again Kathi! I don’t even know you, except for what I read here, and I didn’t think any explanation was needed either…..your love of people really shows through your writing.

I really look forward to your blog every day and you’ve inspired me to write on my blog about a chicken story from my past…come over and take a look……

Diana July 12, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Being silly and making light of every situation and encounter with people is what I’m all about. I just like happy and I know that you are the same way. I’ll ATTEMPT to pull off any accent to get a look or laugh, although I think the laughs are from the bad job I do with trying to mimic others:)

Kathi D July 12, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Whew, thank goodness I posted this. I’m not ready for a Toi/Toe throwdown. I need to build myself up for a few days, maybe with some green milkshakes or something.

Nicki, great chicken story! I love chicken stories, doncha know!

Diana, are you saying you don’t always get the accent right? I’m shocked, shocked I tell you!!!

Kathi D July 12, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Dana. Go to your room and think about what you have done.

bob July 13, 2008 at 9:00 am

Kathi D July 13, 2008 at 10:02 am
