I’m pretty sure my loom project is turning out to be a space ship. It’s cylindrical and multi-colored and vaguely cigar-shaped, which is about how every UFO has been described since the beginning of time.
“Me and Jessie Fay was sitting in the bed of my truck out on Route 7 last Saturday night, just having a couple of beers and looking up at the sky, y’know, and it was real dark and quiet, and then we seen this thing streaking across the sky and it was kind of cigar-shaped, and all different colors, and glowing red at the end, and then it landed right over there in that field and these little green guys with big red eyes came out and they walked over to the truck and they went ‘gleep’ and ‘glup’ and they took Jessie Fay up into the space ship and then they probed me. They probed me all over in all my orifices, and then Jessie Fay came back and the little green men got back onto that there space ship, and they flew off, and we finished up our beers, and the next morning we woke up out there and said, ‘Hey what the heck?’ and we drove back into town and we told the sheriff what we seen and then the TV lady started asking us all these questions and the next thing you know we were on the news and then Jessie Fay’s husband saw us and he came after me with his deer rifle and I went to running, and that’s the last time I ever did see Jessie Fay.”
I don’t know if the loom is faster or slower than knitting with needles would be. The good parts are, it requires absolutely no thought, and no purling. I don’t go for the purling much. I especially don’t like having to knit and purl because I always get mixed up and purl when I should knit and knit when I should purl, and it makes for some interesting effects. If by “interesting” you mean, butt-ugly and messed up.
You can see that I have enough yarn there to make a really long tube thingy. Sure, I thought about making it the length of, say, a cell phone holder, that’s just too easy. No, I’m not taking the easy way out. I’m going to keep making this tube until the yarn is all gone, and then I’m going to figure out what to do with a really long skinny tube of stockinette stitch.
I’ll think about that tomorrow.
